Welcome WNYSLC Faculty Fellows!
The WNYSLC Faculty Fellowship program is based on a model developed by the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center at Buffalo State College. The intensive training features nationally recognized practitioners in service-learning who will provide participants with the foundational knowledge needed to understand the theory and practice of service-learning.
The Fellowship program provides instruction to help faculty members facilitate their students’ diverse experiences and includes a tour of a neighborhood and community organizations. Fellows will also have the opportunity to meet a number of community partners and discuss their potential courses and project ideas. Institutional meetings allow Fellows to meet with a service-learning coordinator or administrator from their home institution to discuss specific questions and logistics.
Fellows will be provided a number of resources during the training; this link has been set up to augment those resources. Documents found on this link include sample syllabi, examples of evaluation tools, service contracts, and reflection activity ideas. The “Additional Resources” link provides information on performing community-based research, including service-learning in the tenure review process, and building campus engagement.
Fellows are encouraged to use these resources to help guide their understanding of service-learning and course development. The WNYSLC staff is also available to help answer questions, provide additional resources, brainstorm or make meaningful community connections. Contact Stephanie Malinenko at smalinen@daemen.edu or (716) 566-7841.
Even if you are not a WNYSLC Faculty Fellow, we encourage you to use these resources to build your knowledge of service-learning. If you would like more information on the Faculty Fellowship program, please contact the WNYSLC staff at the contact information above.
Thank you! We look forward to a great and diverse Fellowship experience!
The WNYSLC Staff,
Stephanie Malinenko
